Which golf cart is best; Gas or Electric?
The first major decision to make when purchasing a new golf car is to choose between gas or battery powered. There are pros and cons for each side. This page details these points for both gas and electric powered golf carts. Gas or Electric?

Are 48 volt golf carts more powerful than 36 volt ones?
You might think that 48, being a higher number, is a more powerful system. Golf carts have controllers that have a certain amount of amperage. This is one key feature to receiving power, another being the motor. Every manufacturer has a different size motor and controller with different program settings for the two. Therefore, 48 volts does not necessarily mean you are getting more power. The different drive systems will allow you to climb those steep hills. We have built carts that travel over 40mph by changing out the controller and/or motor. Contact us so we can customize a golf cart to fit your individual needs.

How long does it take to charge a set of batteries?
Golf cart batteries normally take 2-8 hours to fully charge. Some carts with older batteries will take longer because of the sulfur build up they have accumulated over time. Another factor is the extent of use you put on the cart before charging it. Make sure to check the water levels before charging your unit and never overfill the batteries.

How long will my cart run on a full charge?
Golf carts normally travel between 15 and 30 miles on one charge depending on the terrain you are driving, load you are carrying, and the age of your batteries. Older batteries will definitely be restricted by this mileage.

Do you service golf carts before you sell them?
For gas carts we replace the air, fuel, and oil filters. We then put new spark plugs and oil in the cart. We also adjust the valves and tighten the starter generator belt. When needed, we clean and adjust the brakes. We also grease all the points around the cart while checking the air in the tires.

Are my batteries 6 Volt, 8 volt, or 12 volt?
Count the fill holes in the batteries: 3 holes= 6 Volt; 4 holes=8 Volt; 6 holes=12 Volt.

What kind of maintenance should I be doing myself?
You need to do 3 things on a monthly basis:
- Wash battery tops, battery compartment, underside of vehicle & clean with baking soda/water solution.
- Keep battery water filled to proper level with distilled water.
- Check your tires air pressure & adjust if necessary.
How often should I have my golf cart serviced by Carolina Custom Carts?
It depends on how much "use" is being put on the golf cart. Under normal circumstances if the golf cart is used 3 or more times a week, you should have it serviced every 6 months.

Is it important to use distilled water in my batteries?
It is best to use distilled water in your batteries to avoid adding minerals that are found in other types of water.

What can I use to clean my plastic windshield?
Never use ammonia or alcohol based cleaners on acrylic! You can find cleaners that are safe for acrylic/plastic in our showroom or soon to be in our online store.
